Heels are particularly sensitive and persistently develop hard swellings.
To prevent defects, it’s worth doing nourishing scrubs from time to time, which allow you to get rid of dead skin and also moisturise and lubricate dry feet. These treatments don’t require a lot of money or time, and they can noticeably improve the appearance of neglected feet. In this article, we’ll show you how to properly perform a homemade scrub.
How to take care of your feet?
If your feet dry out easily and the skin peels and cracks, it’s advisable to oil them at least once a day. You can do this using ready-made masks and creams, or ointments with vitamin A+E. Regular weekly foot baths also have a lasting effect. It’s important that the water is lukewarm, with the addition of olive oil.
After bathing, make a scrub. Pay special attention to areas where the skin is thicker, especially the heels. Massage the ankle area more lightly and for less time. Then apply moisturising cream to your feet and wear thin cotton socks so that the ointment can be absorbed quickly. Weekly exfoliation has a visible effect: the skin gradually softens, and when it becomes supple, there’s no need to use a grater or pumice stone.
How to make a coffee foot scrub?
You will need:
- 2 tablespoons of ground coffee,
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil,
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.
Pour the ground coffee into a deep dish, such as a bowl. Add olive oil and lemon juice to the coffee. Mix everything until it becomes a smooth paste. Done! Now, all you need to do is rub the mixture on your feet (preferably after a warm bath). Rub the scrub longer and harder on your heels, and after a few minutes rinse with lukewarm water.
How to make a nutty foot scrub?
You will need:
- 1 tablespoon of eucerin,
- 3 teaspoons of ground walnut shells.
Grind the walnut shells well, for example in a coffee grinder. Pour the obtained pulp into a bowl, add eucerin and mix. Wash and dry your feet thoroughly before applying the scrub, and rinse with lukewarm water afterwards.
How to make a sugar foot scrub?
You will need:
- 2 tablespoons of boiled flaxseed slurry,
- 1 tablespoon of white sugar.
Mix the sugar and flaxseeds in a bowl. If the resulting consistency is too soft for your feet, replace the white sugar with coarse sugar or add more flaxseed. The pulp can also be used as a moisturising mask. For best results, wrap your feet in foil after oiling, put on socks and leave for about half an hour. Finally, rinse your skin with lukewarm water.
How to make a salt foot scrub?
You will need:
- 2 tablespoons of salt,
- 1 heaping tablespoon of coconut oil or shea butter,
- 2 drops of peppermint oil.
Pour the salt into a bowl, add the coconut oil or shea butter. The oil should be soft, but do not dissolve it in water if you want optimal results. To make your feet smell nice after scrubbing, add 2 more drops of peppermint oil. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and apply to your skin. Massage your feet for a few minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. If they are still greasy, use glycerine soap.
When not to use scrubs?
If your feet are irritated or have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, don’t bother with scrubs.
Contraindication to perform weekly peeling are also open wounds, unhealed corns and cracks on the heels. Irritation after peeling happens in people with very sensitive foot skin, as well as those with allergies. To find out whether it’s an allergic reaction, replace one scrub with another, with a different composition. Irritation can also result from too much friction.
