Aegate provides a unique patient safety network that opens a direct, IT enabled communications channel between pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies. The channel communicates real time pertinent information at the time of dispense. The services Aegate provides are:

• Aegate Reach™ - Optimises patient health benefits from treatments by enhancing compliance.

The name Aegate is derived from Aegis, the Greek name for a shield, and Agate, a medical healing stone. Together these present a powerful combination that expresses Aegate's mission to increase confidence in patient safety.

Pharmaceutical companies are provided with secure web access, rather like a safety deposit box in a bank, to deposit data files relating to the unique codes contained on the drug packaging, similar to that currently transferred to Risiv or Inami. These files are transferred before products are released into the market. When the product reaches the pharmacy, the product code is validated by the pharmacist through an on-line scanning process, integrated inside the pharmacy software.

On dispensing, the validation process carried out by Aegate takes less than a second. Any safety notices associated with the product are delivered to the pharmacists before dispensing.

This assists pharmacists and pharmaceutical companies to ensure the best quality medicine advices are being provided to patients.

The Aegate services are currently in operation in Belgium, Greece and Italy, with plans in place for further growth across Europe in 2008.

Our sole investor, Ipex Capital is an independent, UK-based venture capital company providing funding to early stage companies. Formerly the venture arm of PA Consulting, Ipex Capital provides Aegate with independent funding and PA Consulting provides us with access to PA's broad expertise and reach.
